Since its founding nearly 250 years ago, the United States has been an exceptional country and a unique home for the Jewish people. From the beginning, America celebrated the Hebraic spirit, and unlike the nations and empires of the Old World, never demanded that Jews check our faith before entering the public square. In America, we can contribute to the life of the republic as Jews and as equal citizens.
Yet today, American Jewry and the larger American project face renewed threats.
As proud Jews and patriotic Americans, it is our responsibility to defend the founding principles and enduring spirit that have made the United States a Jewish land of hope and a beacon of freedom to the world. We must ask: How can we make the Jewish case for American exceptionalism in the modern age?
To explore this question and much more, Tikvah invites you to join Bret Stephens, Professor Ruth Wisse, and Eric Cohen in conversation with Jonathan Silver on June 9 for a special Society celebration of the 250th anniversary of American independence.
